The Tim McGraw Medical Education Scholarship

The Tim McGraw Medical Education Scholarship has been established to provide partial support for a graduate of Duke University and Duke’s Collegiate Athlete Pre-Medical Experience (CAPE) to attend Duke University Medical School. It is particularly targeted for a female varsity athlete who has displayed: 1) a record of academic excellence at Duke; 2) excellent interpersonal skills as demonstrated by interactions with patients, families, and members of The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center; and 3) sustained interest and passion in pursuing a career in medicine, particularly oncology. Support is offered by the Tug McGraw Foundation in the amount of $25,000 per year for four years. The goal is to award a new scholarship every four years.

2006 Recipient: Johanna Bischof

The Tug McGraw Foundation is pleased to announce that Johanna Bischof has been selected as the recipient of the first Tim McGraw Medical Education Scholarship. This award will provide $25,000 a year for four years toward the cost of medical school.

I am honored and delighted to be selected as the first Tim McGraw Medical Education Scholarship recipient. This award will help me immensely to afford attending Duke Medical School and take the first steps toward my goal of becoming an oncologist.

--Johanna Bischof

Johanna, who is a native of Vancouver, Canada, attended Duke University from 2001-2005 on a field hockey scholarship, during which time she was named an All-American. She was accepted to Duke Medical School but deferred for a year to play on the Canadian National Field Hockey Team and attend the Commonwealth Games. She will start her medical school education at Duke in July 2006.
