November 15, 2007 – Team McGraw Completes ING New York City Marathon
The debut appearance of Team McGraw in the ING New York City Marathon 2007 was a huge success, pulling together committed runners from across the country and Canada to raise more than $200,000 in support of the Foundation. November 15, 2007 – Tug McGraw Foundation Gala Held in St. Louis
The third annual TMF fundraising gala, “Denim & Diamonds: An Evening with Tim McGraw and Friends,” was held this past November 2 at Grant’s Farm in St. Louis. November 14, 2007 – Stress and Long-Term Survivors of Brain Cancer
A recent study conducted at the Tug McGraw Research Center at Duke documents that long-term survivors of brain cancer – (those surviving 18 months or more) – are just as likely to report themselves as stressed as other patients with brain tumors.

October 16, 2007 – Tug McGraw Foundation Announces 2007 Award Recipients
The Tug McGraw Foundation will honor individuals who have made a difference in the fight against brain tumors during “Denim and Diamonds: An Evening with Tim McGraw and Friends” on Friday, November 2 at Grant’s Farm in St. Louis. This standout event is sponsored by Anheuser-Busch Companies and American Airlines.

October 15, 2007 – Runner Serves Up Bartending Benefit
Team McGraw runner Jennifer McDevitt saw friends and supporters raise their glasses in support of the Foundation at a special bartending benefit in her hometown of Palatine, Illinois on August 28, 2007. Ready to take on the challenge of tending bar, McDevitt raised both the bar and the bucks at this fun and festive event.

October 15, 2007 – Cell Phone Use and Brain Tumors: Urban Myth or Reality?
Everybody seems to be talking on a cell phone today, from your great-grandmother to grade-school kids. As a result, there has been much debate about whether the use of cell phones (low-energy radiation) causes brain tumors. This study examines the potential effects of cellular phone use on the risk of brain tumor development.

October 15, 2007 – Characteristics of Brain Tumor-Associated Headache
Some people get headaches frequently; others rarely experience one. While headaches can be painful, most of the time they are soon gone – and we forget all about them. However, headaches are among the most common symptoms of brain tumors.

October 15, 2007 – Winner: 2007 Caregiver of the Year
This year’s nominees for the “Caregiver of the Year” award included heartbreaking and inspiring stories of those who demonstrate courage, faith, strength, and a “Ya Gotta Believe” attitude in caring for brain tumor patients. The Tug McGraw Foundation is honored to announce Arlene Roselli as the 2007 Tug McGraw Foundation “Caregiver of the Year.”

October 10, 2007 – First Brain Cancer Vaccine Approved in Switzerland
Northwest Biotherapeutics, a US-based company, has announced that it has won approval for commercial use of the world’s first vaccine against brain cancer in Switzerland. The Tug McGraw Foundation will continue to follow what promise to be “some of the most watched and anticipated clinical trials ever conducted.”

October 3, 2007 – “Angels Among Us” 5K Sets Record
The 14th Annual “Angels Among Us” 5K run at Duke University brought together members of the brain tumor community – doctors and patients, researchers and caregivers - in a show of teamwork that resulted in the setting of a new fundraising record for the event.

Nashville poet, illustrator, and children’s author Shawn-Michelle Nelson offers this gift of hope and life lessons through the eyes of a seemingly fragile flower and her bespectacled worm friend named Wisdom in this treasure of a book titled Hope, complete with hand-painted illustrations.

September 8, 2007 –Crossword Puzzles and Training the Brain
Can we train our brains to think faster? Will doing crossword puzzles keep dementia or Alzheimer’s at bay? Scientists at Duke University are looking at just that, conducting pilot studies to determine how cognitive and non-medicinal training methods can improve the quality of life for those patients challenged with brain tumors.

September 6, 2007 – New Trial Cleared for Children with Inoperable Brain Cancer
YM BioSciences USA Inc. has been cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration to initiate a Phase II trail investigating nimotuzumab in pediatric patients with recurrent diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), a form of inoperable, treatment-resistant brain cancer.
