High School Ballplayers Score with “Hits for Tug’s Team”

Spring is in swing and baseball is back as two high school ball programs in Delaware look to rack up some big dollars for the Tug McGraw Foundation. 

With each hit logged throughout the 2007 season, players for the St. Mark’s Spartans and the Salesianum School Sallies will be scoring donations for brain tumor research and the fight against brain cancer.  Off to a grand start, one anonymous donor has pledged to donate one dollar for each hit from both schools, with a minimum $300 pledge on behalf of each team.

“Tug would have been all about it,” says Foundation president Jennifer Brusstar.  “He loved the game, going to the parks, goofing on all the younger players – and then to combine all of that into a wonderful way to raise money for people in the same fight he fought – he would so dig this!”

Every baseball team from both schools – varsity, junior varsity, and freshman levels – is participating in this effort to further the mission of the Tug McGraw Foundation.  Joining them in this delightful campaign is young Jimmy McKeon, a boy in Landenberg, PA.  Jimmy is both an enthusiastic baseball fan and a patient currently waging his own courageous battle with a brain tumor.  It is to him that the “Hits for Tug’s Team” is dedicated.

Other schools and programs seem to be following suit.  A similar program is being considered at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.  “It’s a great program, a great idea,” says Brusstar, “and if continues to catch on, well, we’re all for it!”

Donations may be made to the “Hits for Tug’s Team” program by downloading the form below.  Included is the option to make specific contributions for each team, pledge specific amounts for each hit, or simply make a flat contribution.  All donations are tax-deductible.

So dig your glove out of the closet, cruise over to the park, and share your support for those dedicated youngsters as they swing for the fence…and the Tug McGraw Foundation.
