"Angels Among Us"

It couldn’t have been a nicer day if the “Angels” had made it themselves…
but then maybe they did!

Saturday, April 1, 2006 was the 13th Annual “Angels Among Us” 5K run. The air was filled with laughter, love and hope as brain cancer survivors, walkers and runners made their way through the Duke University campus and the Sarah P. Duke Gardens in Durham, North Carolina. David Bailey, a 9+ year survivor, was on hand to lend his support for this most worthy cause. “Angels Among Us” is a celebration of life, strength, courage, and commitment.

Tug McGraw Foundation CEO Jennifer Brusstar joined together with supporters Brighid deGaray, Maria Grabowski and Natasha Vocelka to run on behalf of Team McGraw and show our support for the Tug McGraw Foundation. Team McGraw joined hundreds of individuals who all came together for the common goal of raising funds that will aid in the search of a cure for brain cancer while helping to improve the quality and length of life for current patients.

Families and teams created T-shirts in support and memory of their loved ones. One of the “hot shirts” was the “Got Hope” shirt sported by the members of The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center Team! This year’s event raised over $671,000.00 to be used towards research and clinical trails at The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke.

At Duke, there truly is Hope – for all patients. This could not have been more evident than on Saturday. All you needed to do was look into the eyes of the children running, playing and having a wonderful time. Children that know the real meaning of Hope. Parents, caregivers, survivors, spouses and so many more who are bound by a disease that takes so much but also gives each of us the opportunity to realize and appreciate what it means to enjoy each day and to “Live Like We Were Dying!”
